Recently the TodTots store caught my eye, because of the cute logo and inventory. I thought it might be nice to do a review as I had not heard of the shop before. TodTots were so kind to provide a Whimsical Box from April. The box took about 2ยฝ weeks to arrive from Singapore to my place (in the Netherlands). The box itself is white with a subtle pink print and the contents were wrapped ever so nicely:
Inside the Whimsical Box you’ll find 10 of the newest items from TodTots. You can expect to receive cute stationery items, that you can use to brighten up your desk or planner/diary. Look at all those whimsical goodies!
The first item that I unpacked was this Iconic Pencil Cap Set with cactus(!) design. These caps help to prevent pencil tips from breaking and to protect your pencil bag, they look and feel very decent.
I was very happy to find a To Do Notepad in the box. A to-do list is something that I use on a regular basis, to get stuff done as a freelancer (^_^). The pad comes with 70 sturdy and nicely decorated sheets of paper, with a blank backside.
Next up is a sheet of Washi Masking Tape (this theme would be great for a travel journal) and an 8 color retractable pen. The pen contains all the colours of the rainbow with a 0,5mm point, for me it’s a little too big to write comfortably with though.
A cute subscription box wouldn’t be complete without stickers. I received a set of 4 Party Dog sticker sheets with a very whimsical design. These transparent stickers contained both Korean and English text, with catchphrases such as “Happiness is a warm puppy” and “Behind the clouds is the sun still shining”. They certainly deserve a place in my ever-growing deco sticker collection.
The Rilakkuma Factory Stickers are very nice and I hope that my picture shows the texture. The black is a little grungy (on purpose) and about half of the stickers come with silver foil details.
If you need to highlight text for school or work I can certainly recommend this Multi Highlighter. The colours are very bright and neon, almost like they would light up in te dark (โ๏ฝกโขฬโฟโขฬ๏ฝก)โใผโ The orange is brighter IRL than on my pictured notepaper, but it’s a bit difficult to capture this.
And there were even more stickers inside the box! This is a set of 45 small label stickers (about 4 x 4 cm), with lots of cats. It’s just purrrfect as one of the white cats is odd-eyed and resembles my Cato a bit.
I really liked the illustration on this Kitty Postcard, which comes with a magnetic bookmark. IMHO the quality could have been a bit better. If you look closely, you can see that the bookmark is made out of sturdy paper and has small ridges near the right side. Also I think that kitty card itself could have been made out of heavier weight paper.
These Writing Markers are nice to mark a specific date or event in your calendar or planner. Keep in mind that you could only fit about 1-3 word on the post-it markers, as they are about 25 x 25 mm.
My verdict about the Whimsical Box
A Whimsical Box subscription will cost SGD 39,95 / $29.95 / โฌ25,95 per month, with free shipping. For this price you’ll receive 10 exclusive items from the TodTots shop. If you would purchase the items from April’s box separately at the shop, it would cost about โฌ39,50 without shipping. So you get good value for the price.
Until yesterday the box was priced at $34.95 / โฌ29,45 and my next comment was: ‘But to be completely honest I would be more tempted to buy the Whimsical Box if it was a tad cheaper’ Maybe TodTots has taken this into consideration, as they’ve lowered the price โฅ
The Whimsical Box is almost like a grown-up version of the Kawaii Box, with items that will especially appeal to stationery lovers and (journal) crafters. I can put almost all the items to good use. Please have a look at the TodTots website -and scroll down a bit- to see what was in previous boxes.
