The Wonderful Sugar Art of Carlos Lischetti

Carlos Lischetti Sugar Art

As you might have noticed I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, combined with a love for cute characters. So I was blown away when I saw the sugar art of Carlos Lischetti. His creations from sugarpaste look perfect, almost as if they are characters in a 3D movie.

Carlos and his twin brother Elio have been working with clay ever since they were little. I’ve also been playing with Play Dough together with my twin sister, but somehow the clay ended up as sad brownish lumps… So I guess the Lischetti brothers were more talented from the get go  😉 . Later on Carlos started making cakes, got a job at a bakery and nowadays he gives workshops all around the world.

At the present the brothers are still working together. Elio (who works as an animator) creates the characters that Carlos turns into sugar art, you can see an example of this proces pictured above.

Have a look this tutorial (page 6) if you would like to make the ballerina above. It’s in Spanish, but I think the pictures speak for themselves. Carlos has published two DIY books called “Animation in Sugar” & “Animation in Sugar: Take 2” and you can drool over more of his work on his blog.

  1. Those are awesome! I’m impressed by food art. I think I’m artsy & I have fun with clay, but food is so hard for me to control the shape of. For now, I’m content with having my food taste good.

    1. I understand what you are saying Tenko, and somehow it feels a bit strange to put so much time into food art when it’s eaten after all.
