Kawaii Chocolate Lollipops


I’ve been collecting kawaii chocolate molds for a couple of years, but never got around to using them 😦 Last weekend I finally put them to use and discovered they are quite easy to work with! I can advice you to start by using dark chocolate (pure or milk). White chocolate or lighter candy melts are a bit trickier to melt, because they have a lower burning point.


  • You will need:
  • Chocolate and/or Candy Melts
  • Chocolate mold
  • Small Bowls
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Cellophane (cake pop) wrappers
  • Ribbon

The mold came with yellow sticks, but I used white cake pop sticks for this tutorial.


1. Microwave the chocolate at intervals of 20-30 seconds at about 600 watt until melted. This will probably take 2-3 minutes in total.
2. Stir the melted chocolate with a spoon and let it cool down a little.


3. Use a tea spoon to put the chocolate inside the mold until it’s half-filled.
4. Now slightly lift up the tray and gently tap it on the table a couple of times, to evenly distribute the chocolate.


5. Place sticks on each of the shapes, and fill the remaining half with chocolate.
6. You can repeat step 4 if you want flat backsides, but you might have to re-position the sticks a little afterwards.
7. Put the mold in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours. *patience*


8. Carefully remove the shapes from the mold, by stretching it a bit, and the lollipops are ready! (*^β–½^*)ᡞᡘᡐᡐᡞ


I’ve created the eyes with a chocolate filled deco pen and white nonpareils sprinkles.


Cake pop wrappers are great if you’d like to turn the lollipop into a kawaii gift. For the ribbons above I’ve used the fork bow trick.

Where to get those chocolate molds?
– I can recommend jBox, Tout Mignon and Worldofkawaii for kawaii molds.
Modes4U has got a nice collection of Sanrio and San-x molds.
– And if you plan to visit Japan, you should really check out a Daiso store.


What chocolate can I use?
I’ve used melting chocolate, but any regular plain chocolate bar would do. You just have to break/chop it into small pieces and follow the steps above.

Now the pink candy melts were a whole other story. At first I microwaved the wafers for too long and it ended up looking like marshmallow puke:


Thanks to the internet I learned that you will have to microwave candy melts at intervals of about 20-30 seconds and stir the wafers in between. Eventually you’ll see that they’ll start to melt, but the substance is quite thick. You can thin it by adding a bit of coconut oil or crisco. You could also mix white chocolate with a little bit of strawberry Nesquik or food coloring to create pink chocolate.
