Kawaii DIY Gingerbread Man Cookies

After watching Shrek, I’ve developed a soft spot for gingerbread menย โค So when I stumbled upon the Frosted Fun cookie cutters from Wilton, I couldn’t help myself. The last time I made cookies was before the millennium, light years ago… So I purchased a ready to go cookie mix, hoping that everything would go according to plan. After decorating the first gingerbread man, I asked Metin to try one and he still has got all his teeth *yay*. Actually they could have stayed in the oven a tad longer. So that’s a good excuse to bake a second batch soon ^_^.

These are some basic ingredients and tools which you can use:

Making cookies is quite simple and there are many tutorials on the internet. Probably better than mine :p
Basically what you have to do is this:

  1. Put the cookie mix in a bowl and add the right amount of butter (as stated on the package).
  2. Use your muscles and start kneading the mix with your hands. It might take a while for everything to blend together. I will mix eventually. Really.
  3. When you’re left with a ball of dough, place it into the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
  4. While waiting for the dough to cool down, you can spread some flour on the counter top and on your rolling pin (or bottle). This will prevent the dough from sticking onto the counter.
  5. Take the dough out of the refrigerator and place it on the counter top.
  6. Now start rolling the dough into some sort of pancake of about 1cm in height.
  7. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the cookies from the dough.
  8. Transfer those cookies to a baking tray covered with a layer of parchment paper. Leave some space in between the cookies (or they’ll start touching hands while baking ;))
  9. If you’ve got enough dough leftovers simply knead it into a ball again and repeat step 6-8.
  10. Place the tray into the oven after preheating. Please look at the cookie mix package for the right temperature (I used 160degr. for 22 minutes)
  11. *Pling* they’re done! Now wait for them to cool down for about half an hour (the agony).

Time to start decorating. I used icing pens from Dr. Oetker. But you can also use melted chocolate or royal icing and put it into a piping bag or a deco pen.

  1. Oh, these are so cute! I love gingerbread men but my hubby hates ginger so I never make them. I never thought to make gingerbread men shaped cookies though. ๐Ÿ™‚
